This morning I woke up and my first thought was: "Publication day!"
I am so, so happy that Renegade Magic is out today in America. This is a book that started growing in me the first time I ever stepped into the Roman Baths museum in Bath and found myself overwhelmed by the magic and mystery of the atmosphere there. (You can read that whole story here.)
This is a book of my heart, one that I knew I was crazy to write at the time - because it was the sequel to a book that hadn't even found an agent yet at the time, much less a publisher! - but I couldn't stop myself from writing it anyway. It was too much fun to give up, as I followed Kat's adventures to Bath, watching her cause chaos in the elegant Pump Room and fight wild magic in the Roman baths and do her best to untangle her older siblings from all the awful trouble they'd gotten into with scandalous rakes and Roman goddesses. I wrote the first 3/4 of the book before I ever found an agent, and I knew there was a good chance it would never see the light of day - but I loved it so much that I didn't care.
But I am so, so happy that it has been published now in both the UK and America, and so many other people can share it.
This is my personal favorite line from the book: "If anyone utters the words 'true love' to me, I shall have strong hysterics," Stepmama said.
And here is the wonderful book trailer that my brother, filmmaker David Burgis, made for me as a book-birthday gift:
Also: Kat, Incorrigible is out in paperback today! And that means that so many more people will be able to buy and read it, and that just thrills me.
Thanks so much for sharing my celebration with me, guys. And as a very small thank-you to you guys for being here with me, I want to give away a pair of the lovely earrings that jeweler Emily Mah made as a tie-in for Renegade Magic:
(The earrings are also available on Amazon.com, along with the rest of Emily's Kat-related jewelry, including her beautiful Magick Book pendant and charm bracelet. Note: I'm not getting any percentage of the profits, so I don't mention these to try to earn myself more money - I'm just thrilled that they're there!)
To win a pair of the earrings, just leave a comment saying that you'd like to win them. I'll pick a winner in one week, and of course this giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere in the world. (If you don't have pierced ears, don't worry - I will only enter commenters in the drawing if they've specifically asked for the earrings! So please feel free to go ahead and leave a comment anyway.)
Now I'm off to finish going through the first-pass pages of Stolen Magic (Kat Book 3!) - but Patrick will be home any minute with a celebratory Publication Day treat for us to share as I go through those first-pass pages. Mmm... :)
ETA: Congratulations to Madrie, who won the earrings giveaway!
