Blog Entry: Publication Day Joy

This morning I woke up and my first thought was: "Publication day!"
I am so, so happy that Renegade Magic is out today in America. This is a book that started growing in me the first time I ever stepped into the Roman Baths museum in Bath and found myself overwhelmed by the magic and mystery of the atmosphere there. (You can read that whole story here.)
This is a book of my heart, one that I knew I was crazy to write at the time - because it was the sequel to a book that hadn't even found an agent yet at the time, much less a publisher! - but I couldn't stop myself from writing it anyway. It was too much fun to give up, as I followed Kat's adventures to Bath, watching her cause chaos in the elegant Pump Room and fight wild magic in the Roman baths and do her best to untangle her older siblings from all the awful trouble they'd gotten into with scandalous rakes and Roman goddesses. I wrote the first 3/4 of the book before I ever found an agent, and I knew there was a good chance it would never see the light of day - but I loved it so much that I didn't care.
But I am so, so happy that it has been published now in both the UK and America, and so many other people can share it.
This is my personal favorite line from the book: "If anyone utters the words 'true love' to me, I shall have strong hysterics," Stepmama said.

Also: Kat, Incorrigible is out in paperback today! And that means that so many more people will be able to buy and read it, and that just thrills me.
